Hiking Trails in the Val Passiria
Hiking in South Tyrol - intermediate hikes
Here you will find our recommendations for intermediate hikes through the impressive mountains in the Val Passiria. Begin your hike straight from the Hotel Martinerhof in S. Martino - numerous hiking routes lead to scenically impressive viewing points in South Tyrol!
Walking time: approx. 3hrs
Difficulty: easy to intermediate
cross the street - left along the Passerdammweg up to St. Anna bridge - Pfandlerhof (opportunity to stop for refreshments) - along the Waldweg (forest route) up to the Pfandler Alm (this is where the peoples hero, Andreas Hofer, was captured).
Walking time: 2 hrs, suitable for push chairs
Go along the main road by car - after about 200m turn left onto Prantacherstraße - go up the mountain road past the Holzerhof and Pfeiftal - there’s a turn off on the left hand side with the description “Fartleis samt Parkplatz” (Fartleis and parking area) - follow the markers for 1 or 2 up to the Fartleisalm.
Walking time: approx. 3.5 hrs
Difficulty: easy to challenging
Cross the street, right along the Passerdammweg up to St. Johannes bridge - Gasthaus Bucherkeller - route Nr. 5 to Mörre (pilgrimage route with a cloister) - opportunity to stop for refreshments - back to the Brauhotel Martinerhof via the road to Neuhaus and along the Passer.
Walking time: approx. 3.5 to 4 hrs
Difficulty: intermediate
St. Martin village square - Garberweg - route Nr. 3 towards Gasthof Jaufenblick (opportunity to stop for refreshments) - follow signs for “Christlhof” up to St. Leonhard - via the Passerdammweg back to the Brauhotel Martinerhof.
Walking time: approx. 2hrs
Go by car to St. Leonhard (parking at the bus stop or in the underground car park) - continue on foot via the church up the Happergweg to the crossing - after the entrance to the Hotel Sonnenhof, turn off left onto Platzbergerweg - go up to the farmsteads of the Platzberge on the route that is tarmaced to begin with - through a track through the forest to the entrance of the Pfistradtal - below the wild cliff walls under the edge of the mesa continuing towards the valley until the picturesque Pfistradalm with the St.Anna Chapel.

A round trip around the legendary Kummersee in Rabenstein at the back end of the Val Passiria combines a natural experience, hiking enjoyment and exciting lessons in history.
The E5 or Kummersee Rundweg (Nr. 43) begins in Moos behind the Gasthaus Lanthaler - follow the markers for 45 minutes up to a wooden bridge - continue along the gently climbing route next to the stream and through meadows and forests - you can gaze in wonder at the gigantic mountain torrents and the unique mountain panorama at the various clearings - the journey continues up the mountain via stone steps through the forest - after 30- 40 minutes you reach an hill, from which one can see the picturesque basin called “the green” as well as the chapel of Rabenstein on the hill opposite - after a short climb down you pass the derelict building that was once the “Seehof” and going via the somewhat steeper route, following Nr. 43 up to the Gasteigerhof in the quiet mountain village of Rabenstein - the tarmac route leads straight into the town where there’s the opportunity to have a snack in the Rabenstein and Trausberg guest houses - the return route follows E5 which leads via the quiet main road to begin with - after approx. 25 minutes, a signposted fork appears to the right - go along the forest route straight to Moos.
Walking time: approx. 3 hrs
Drive on the Timmelsjochstraße to Moos up to the Timmelsbrücke with its parking area - follow route Nr. 30 on foot - after an approx. 30min gentle climb you reach the Timmelsalm - after the bridge, route Nr. 30 leads further on to the lake.
